Chapter Fifteen

Matteo

“They were just some punk ass kids aiming at each other,” Mitch tells me.

“Punk ass kids have no place in your club with our product, Mitch,” I remind him. There’s a chance this club could get raided, which could end badly for all parties involved.

“It won’t happen again. The police already did their investigation and found it gang related. The club isn’t under their microscope, Matteo. I assure you things are fine.”

“And your girls? Are they fine as well?”

“The girls were safe,” he replies, causing me to chuckle. One girl was safe because she was with me.

“They didn’t seem safe. I think you should check who you allow in a little better, don’t you think? I’d hate to find another club to run our product through.” That was a threat, and I hope he takes it as one. I’m over playing games with him, and I still don’t know why he wants Syx involved in it. It unsettles something inside of me, but I can’t put my finger on it.

“I will keep better tabs, Matteo.” Nodding my head, I shove out of the chair and adjust my jacket. Giving him one last look, I walk away and down the steps toward the dance floor. I don’t dance much, but I can remember how Syx’s body felt pressed against mine. It’s a shame she doesn’t want anything else to do with me because I plan on doing a lot more with her.

I leave the club and have my driver take me to her place. I know she isn’t home, she’s working at the warehouse, but I also know she’s been avoiding me. I’ve called her, texted her, and almost made her carry something over the border just to get her attention. Nothing worked. She goes to work at the warehouse every day, just as she was instructed.

Now I pick the lock to her cheap apartment and let myself in. I walk over and take a seat on her couch, knowing she’ll be home soon. It doesn’t take long before the door opens and someone walks in.

“Holy shit!” The girl, I assume to be Jill, screams, her hand covering her mouth.

“Are you Jill?” I ask, keeping myself calm. She better not lie.

“Yes.”

“Come sit with me, Jill.” She shakes her head, but I just brush my suit jacket aside, revealing my gun. That always changes things. She walks over and sits in the chair across from me. “I’m not here to hurt you.”

“What do you want? I’ve done everything I was told to do.”

“Si. I know that. I wanted to talk to you about your friend, Syx.”

“What about her? Is she okay?”

“She’s fine. I just want a little more information about her. How did she end up doing this?” I want answers. I want to know about her past. Why she’s here in this shithole and not off somewhere living her life. The girl is twenty-two years old she shouldn’t be wasting her life running our products.

“She got mixed up with Jorge. I tried to warn her, but she doesn’t listen well.
