A box of peanut butter cookies later, my dad, brother, and dog are back. We’re about halfway into the second act of Lafontaine when my brother erupts into my bedroom, jumping around and yelling, “It got accepted! We’re doing a drag talent show!”

Stephie applauds. “That’s amazing! Congratulations.”

“I even told Bagheera, the troop leader, that you knew a journalist who could talk about it in the papers. We’ll need her contact info.”

Stephie and I look at each other. She gave him that idea. I don’t want to be implicated, even if I do know the journalist Stephie mentioned, Melinda. She works with the Metro daily newspaper. I met her during a series of interviews she did about the Youth Committee of the LGBT+ Center. She was nice. She wanted to talk to participants. I don’t have her contact information, since it was Armand who organized everything. But Stephie does, from that time a video she put on YouTube against transphobia went viral. She even went on TV to talk about it. She says to Virgil, “I’ll find her email address and give it to Ciel.”

“Yay! Thank you.”

My brother is about to dance his way out of the room when Stephie stops him. “Wait, is Bagheera his real name?”

Virgil raises his shoulders.

“I don’t know. Maybe.”
