Chapter Seven

Made me shiver

"Good. Remember the rules? Remember your safe words?"

"Yes Sir, I remember."

"Good girl."

He grins excitedly at me, his eyes glinting, and bends to give me one hot, toe-curling kiss before straightening up and unlocking his door, holding it open for me.

"Ladies first."

Stepping in I walk over to the kitchenette and put my purse on the little table. I hear the door click closed softly and expect Rye's footsteps to follow me into the apartment, but for some strange reason they don't. When I turn I see him standing just inside the door, all playfulness gone. His arms are crossed over his chest and he seems to be waiting for something, and his look tells me he's not pleased.

A little annoyed I ask with some impatience in my voice:

"What?!"

Rye is silent for a moment, and then asks in a low, measured voice:

"Naomi, are you a guest in my house this weekend?"

Fuck, what's going on?

With a little tremor to my voice, I answer.

"N-not exactly, Sir. We've agreed I will stay here for the weekend not as your guest, but as your sub."

I hope this is the right answer.

Rye's stance doesn't change. "Correct. I ask because I do allow guests to keep their shoes on when they visit; you, however, are not a guest here. You are my sub, and earlier today I specifically instructed you to remove your shoes as soon as you stepped in the door. And yet, there you are in my kitchen, with your shoes still on.”

He sounds faintly disappointed.

Fuck, fuck, fuck!!! How could I forget?

"I'm so sorry Sir! I – I forgot!"

With angry tears prickling in the back of my eyelids I hasten to step out of my heels to take them in my hand and quickly pad back over to the door and place them on the rack. Rye hasn't budged, so that when I straighten up I am only a few inches away from him. I keep my eyes lowered, too embarrassed and contrite to look him in the eye.

How could I be so stupid to forget such a simple request?!

"Naomi, look at me."

Rye's voice is quiet, almost gentle. I look up, and I know my self-berating thoughts are written all over my face.

"Aside from the four basic rules and your safe-words, I have given you only two other guidelines or instructions today. Do you remember what they were?"

I think only a moment before answering – it's not a hard question. "Y-yes Sir. You told me I should always call you 'Sir' while in session, and then you requested that I remove my shoes as soon as I get in the door."

"Correct. Yet it seems like you've managed to forget each one of these requests as soon as you had a chance – calling me by my name the first time we played, and failing to remove your shoes the first time you walk back into my home."

I hang my head down in shame, and his hand comes up to take my chin firmly and forces it up again so that I have no other choice but look into his eyes.
