“Talking talking talking!”

I walk into the barber shop and Stacey has just lowered the blinds. Beau and Ty have sat themselves in the dark, red, leathery, barber chairs.

“You want to hear this story of mine?” I ask.

“I think we need to be told something?” Ty says, looking unamused.

“No offense Stacey, but does Stacey have to be in here?” Beau asks.

“She may as well be, and you will have to tell Shona and Cally what is happening, too” I explain.

“You make it sound so dramatic,” Beau says.

“There is a good chance it could be. There are things you don’t know.”

“You lot want a drink?” Stacey asks.

“Coffee for all of us,” Beau says. He is always such a good boy, ever since he met Shona.

Stacey walks into the kitchen area and begins to make a drink for us all.

“I will ask you a question, and from this, there will be many questions you ask me,” I explain.

Beau and Ty look at me blankly. They are waiting for me to ask them the question.

“Right, here goes. What do you think about our parents?” I ask.

Silence falls over the barber shop. The only noise is the kettle boiling.

“I am unsure how to answer that,” Ty says.

“Why is that?” I ask.

“Because I don’t know what to say. It is not that I don’t remember them. I just don’t know anything that relates to them,” Ty says.

“Beau?” I ask.

“I thought I did, I was just about to say something, and nothing would come from my mouth,” he says, feeling confused.

“There is a reason for this, and I shouldn’t even know myself. But for a few years, I have known something was wrong.

“What do you mean gone wrong?” Beau asks.

“I learned. We don’t have parents in a normal way,” I reply in truth.

“I’m fucking confused,” Ty remarks.

“We were artificially inseminated,” I explain giving them the god-awful truth in an instant.

“So, we have a mother, we just don’t know who the father is?” Beau asks.

“No. that is not the case, either,” I reply.

“What then?” Beau asks, now looking at Ty.

“We were reared in an incubator.”

“You’re having a laugh,” Ty says.

“Do I look like I am laughing?”

“So… we have no parents?” Ty asks, looking really pale.

“We do, we just have no idea who they are,” I say.

“What about what that guy said?” Beau asks.

“He is right, we were trained together. As we grew up, we did everything together in a government facility. Well, I used to think it was government, but now I am not so sure,” I reply in truth.

“Are you saying we were brought up like super soldiers or something?” asks Ty.

“Not intentionally. If we had remained one child, yes. But as were three, we were trained in different aspects so they could record the differences,” I explain.

“How did you get to find this out?” Beau asks.

“I have a small gift. I can sometimes pick up your thoughts,” I explain.

“A mind reader?” Ty asks. “That would be right!”

“Sort of, but it is not very often.”

“Why can’t we tell what you are thinking?” Ty asks.
