Chapter 16

Reyna

He was an exquisite lover and celebrated my body with such care. I was worried that after having Ariana, he might think I wasn’t as attractive anymore. I certainly didn’t have the same body after the baby, but I liked my new curves. Luckily, he did too.

After we showered, I put some comfortable clothes on. The premiere started at sundown; the party began around six-thirty, and now it was already nine o’clock at night. I needed to check in with Melody and Charlynn and see how Arianna was doing. I felt guilty I didn’t call sooner, but they told me not to call at all. So, waiting as long as I did, was really quite a feat. I hadn’t ever been away from my baby this long. I loved being with Sinclair and enjoyed getting to know him more intimately, but I missed my baby girl.

Melody answered on the first ring, “Nine o’clock. I’m impressed, Reyna. Arianna is a perfect angel. She’s had her bottles, burped, had a bath. We sang to her, and she fell right to sleep. I’m taking the first shift, and Charlynn has the second… and you’re not to call again. We’ll call you if there’s an issue, but I want you to enjoy your night, morning, and another night if you want it.” She said most of all of it in one breath.

“Hello.” I laughed.

“Oh, and did I tell you, we love your baby?” She also laughed.

“It seems like it. So all’s well, I can run off to Paris now?” I teased.

“Yep, we’ll raise your perfect baby,” she said without missing a beat.

No matter how great they were being about taking care of her, I still missed her like crazy. Even teasing about someone else caring for her for the long term struck a chord deep inside of me. I felt a little pang, even though I knew nothing could separate us.

“So. how is it going?” She dropped her voice to a whisper.

“It’s going great. Sinclair is amazing.” I wanted to tell her all the overwhelming things I was thinking, but it wasn’t the right time for that.

There was such a warm love brewing between Sinclair and me; however, Melody had been really hurt recently. Her Halloween night last year didn’t go well at all. She had fun playing her music, and later that evening she did meet an actor. He’d been in a few recognizable movies. He was so hot and dreamy, and after the party, they dated for a while. She fell hard for him, and he was basically an asshole. I think she even thought he might be the one. She wanted a family and children. She was even more eager for them than I was. I understood how painful breakups were.

Just after she got dumped, I found out I was pregnant. I was worried about being a single mom and raising Arianna alone. Melody and Charlynn assured me they’d be there for me every step of the way, and they had been.
