CHAPTER SIX
MAXIE
I recklessly let the alcohol course through my body. I might be what my mother politely calls “big boned”, but I have never had tolerance for alcohol. Shamelessly, I lure Phineas onto the dance floor. Yup, let’s call it what it is…luring.
We dance for a few minutes, and I can feel Phineas up against my backside. He pushes the other men surrounding me out of the way, creating a bubble of some sort that probably carries his scent, which keeps the salivating group at bay. He’s moving fluidly to the beat, but not grinding his cock up against my ass like most men would if given the chance. I can feel him pinching my short dress in places and pulling it down, making sure it covers my ass.
He’s so cute, being oddly overprotective. I must be really shit-faced to be cool with it.
I kind of appreciate the fact I don’t have to worry with Phineas, but my fuzzy mind takes the feel of his fingers down a dangerous path far away from the friend zone. He places his hands on my hips, joining me as the music changes to Katy Tiz and Charli XCX’s “The Big Bang”. As the song progresses, I feel more daring. Reaching my hand back, I run my fingers up into Phineas’ hair. He pulls me closer, grinding me the way I’m craving, leaving his arm wrapped around my middle, holding me close. God, what was I thinking, avoiding Miami all this time?
“You know we don’t have to stay here, right?” His breath brushes against my ear, a strange mixture of hot and cold. “Pris can work the crowd just fine without us.”
“What are we doing?” I groan, turning my head towards his. I need clarity of some kind, but I’m definitely not getting it. I see Pris waving me off and giving me the international sign for, “You better score a ride with Phineas or text me 911”.
“Whatever we want to do. We are adults, Maxine.” I love the way he says my name and wonder why I even tried that online dating site in the first place. Phineas is right. We are consenting adults. The DJ begins to play a dance version of “Crazy in Love”. I feel freaking crazy right now as his hands glide up and down my sides.
“Umm…” I’m debating things in my head when another guy bumps into us and starts doing some flash dance thing in my face. It pushes me back into Phineas, who wraps both his arms around my middle, warning the guy off.
“All right. Let’s go,” I hear his chest rumble and he takes charge, pulling me from the throng of bodies on the dance floor. He bypasses the valet and we get out to the parking lot, breathing heavy. He ushers me into his sleek black convertible and speeds off. We make the drive back to the complex in record time, but I don’t even think about dying in the car. It is then that I realize I trust Phineas in a way I haven’t ever trusted anyone else.
