AIDAN rolled out of bed and stumbled toward the phone as soon as his eyes snapped open. He grabbed it from the bookcase, dialing Kyler’s number from memory as he returned to the bed and began shaking Wyatt’s shoulder, silently praying he would wake quickly. His skin was like fire under Aidan’s palm, and he hadn’t stirred at all by the time Kyler answered, sounding horribly groggy.

“Wyatt’s sick. Really sick.” Aidan flopped down on the pillow, his eyes sliding closed as Wyatt started to pull him back into the Dreamscape. He struggled against it as he begged Kyler to come quickly, explaining that he couldn’t wake Wyatt and detailing the horrible nightmares he’d just escaped.

“I’m on my way. Try to stay awake.”

The phone call ended with a sudden click, and Aidan’s last thought was that there was no way he could comply with Kyler’s request. Wyatt wouldn’t let him. They were both trapped in a nightmare, too busy trying to escape the room of flesh-eating bugs to be aware of the phone that lay beeping between them or the frantic worry of their friends.
