Chapter Seventeen

Crew

The drive home is quiet, well on my end it is but Candy has not stopped talking since we got in the car, and I am over it. Pulling up outside her apartment block I push the car into park.

“Oh,” she says surprised, “I thought we were going back to yours?” I can feel her eyes burning into the side of my head, my finger drums on the steering wheel before I finally give in and look at her.

“I’m tired, I’m on an early tomorrow so I just need to get my head down…”

“Is this to do with Cody?” And hearing her name come from Candy’s lips has my gut twisting and my heart sinking.

“No, Candy. It has nothing to do with Cody.” Anger seeps through my pores and I close my eyes for a moment to try and contain my rage. This isn’t me. I don’t get angry or possessive. Or should that be I didn’t until Cody.

Her eyes widen and I instantly feel like a prick.

“I’m sorry,” and I am.

“It’s fine, look, I think we just need to take a few days to cool off. You’ve been distracted and I know it’s because you’re moving away and now seeing Cody tonight has got you all riled up even though you say it’s not because of her. I want this Crew, but I need you to want it too. I’m not up for a one sided relationship,” she gives a small shrug and half a sad smile. Opening her door, she slips out before closing it and walking to my side. She stops on the pavement, and I undo my window.

“I’ll wait for you Crew, you just need to know whether you are happy with just me.” And with that she turns and unlocks her front door before slipping inside and closing me out.
