Tranter walked decisively toward the galley, expecting to see Dr. Fulton waiting. She found him along with Chef Reagon.

“Good, we haven’t much time. Doctor are you familiar with the airborne virus Sirafaz?”

Mack Fulton stared in surprise at the question. “Sure, I’ve heard of the virus. Bastards used extensively in Africa to pillage the lesser-able countries without bloodshed. It caused a massive world outcry about twenty years, but it’s banned now, like everything else that can wield massive disruption.

Tranter pursed her lips before answering. “I take it you have some aboard the station?”

“Yes, however that doesn’t answer my question. Why?” His puzzled expression shifted from the major to the chef, who was standing casually against the counter with an amused expression.

“Excellent, I need you to locate the virus and load it into the air system.”

“You can’t do that. It will paralyze everyone aboard, even you.” Fulton glowered.

The major nodded. “Yes, it will. Now do as I say. How long will it take? I calculate you have less than five minutes.”

Mack Fulton shook his head. “Does Erille know what you are planning?”

“No. If you don’t go about your duty, Doctor, I’ll have to do it for you. Believe me, I’d have no compunction in choosing a weapon that can do far more damage.” Tranter turned to the chef, who was smirking at the doctor’s discomfort. “You help him, every second is valuable.”

Mack, shaking his head, walked over to the exit, glanced at the major once more. “I’m not sure how much I can load into the system in five minutes. It’s going to take me time to locate the virus.”

“Do what you can—oh and you might warn the commander to have everyone issued with a respirator. We can’t have our crew under the influence can we?”

Tranter watched the confused doctor leave with a protesting chef tagging along. At least she knew what the cook was up to. It was unwise to have anyone unaccounted for. Checking the elapsed time, she hoped the doctor wouldn’t take a side trip. Now, more than ever, she needed backup she trusted.
