As May gave way to June, the smile on Amelia’s face and the spring in her step came more often and stayed longer, and when she thought about Olivia, it was with a quiet sense that all was well. In that frame of mind Amelia resumed her volunteer work with premature babies in the hospital nursery. The nurses welcomed her warmly.

“They really missed me,” Amelia told Mike one afternoon when they were developing negatives at his studio.

“Why wouldn’t they miss you? Heavens, I missed you. You’re a special person, Amelia, and you have a great deal of love to give.”

From that day, whenever Amelia felt blue she had only to remember Mike’s words, and the welcoming look on the nurses’ faces in the baby nursery, and she would recover her spirits.
