We actually can’t be sure whether the Universe is infinite or not. The measurements to date tell us that the size of the entire Universe is probably much, much bigger than everything we see, but whether it’s actually infinite or not is harder to measure.

What lies outside the Universe, and what is the Universe expanding into?

The concept of something being outside the Universe is almost completely meaningless, as it involves the concept of there being space outside the Universe. Space as we understand it – the three dimensions of up-down, left-right and front-back – are only defined within the boundaries of the Universe. It is possible that the Universe we know is embedded in a higher-dimensional structure, but the higher dimensions will not be measured in the same way.
