Devil Worshippers

After Peggy, Skylar, and Samantha returned, they immediately attended a meeting in their cabin. The girls in attendance each described their efforts to cover the time travelers’ absence. The story they used, that the three girls returned to Skylar’s house to retrieve some clothes, didn’t play very well, but when the girls did turn up at Skylar’s house after twelve hours, the counselors grudgingly accepted the story. For the first eight hours of their absence, the girls kept saying that they had seen the three of them together doing several different things.

In turn, the three girls slowly related their experiences going back in time. All the girls had questions, but finally the conversation turned to how they would find one of the devil worshippers to send Elizabeth back to Hades. Prudence spoke.

“You’ve made me very homesick. I wish I could be back in 1756 right now. But as we have all said, going back in time can really change the future in unpredictable ways. I’m sure that little trip has influenced our world in ways we don’t even know yet. As to the group that summoned Elizabeth, I think a strange Roman Catholic priest who heads the local Catholic Church, the Lady of our Saints, is involved. I overheard one of the students at Tanglewood talking about him. Her parents think he is a devil worshipper. Also, the priest became involved with the interviews of witchdoctors and shamans for Elizabeth. At least, this is what we heard. We need someone to speak with the priest. Rachel, since you are an adult and a witch, you should probably be the one. Maybe you can persuade the priest to invite you to one of their meetings.”

“Assuming the priest is one of the worshippers who brought Elizabeth back, I like that plan. If I can persuade the priest to invite me to a meeting, I should be able to tell what follower or followers would be willing to send Elizabeth back. I will have to be very careful. This group may worship Elizabeth as hard as that might be for any of us to believe. I could be in real danger if they find my true mission,” Rachel said.

“Rachel, do you need any of us to go with you? You shouldn’t have to take all the risk,” Prudence asked.

“No, I’m all right at least for my original meeting with the priest. He won’t risk harming me in his church. After that, we can assess where we are. I haven’t forgotten for a moment that Jade and Tabatha are trapped in the new World in Between, and that soon, more of us will be trapped there as well,” Rachel said.

“Jade is our sister and fellow member of the Fab Four. I miss her every hour she is gone. Without Jade and her outrageous ways, life is pretty dull despite the challenges we face. And, of course, we all owe Tabatha for allowing the three of us to return to 1756,” Carly said.

“You can say that again sister.
