“Of course, my Prince,” Bennet said.

Tristan’s pacing stopped and when Bennet opened his eyes, Tristan was standing before him. Bennet looked up at him and Tristan knelt so they were eye to eye.

“I ask that you tell me the truth, all of it, no matter how ugly or how overwhelmed I am,” Tristan said.

“I-”

“You wanted to keep it to yourself for fear of getting an innocent man in trouble, because I have been doing so much, because there are so many things happening,” Tristan said.

Bennet nodded.

“But that is what I was born for, Bennet. And you, you are the magic that was called to me and I cannot ask for more than that,” Tristan said and raised a hand to Bennet’s face. He traced his jawline.

“You are not upset with me?” Bennet asked.

“I am, but I can see why you did it. I would have done the same. But it is not your duty to do all the things that an Alpha would do. You must let me bear my burden,” Tristan said.

“I hate to see it,” Bennet confessed.

Tristan nodded and traced the bow of Bennet’s lip. “And I hate to bear it, because it takes me from you. But you and I must still do what it calls us to do. Do not answer my call, as I will not answer yours. Trust me, trust that I can do what I must.”

Bennet grasped Tristan’s hand and pressed his lips to Tristan’s knuckles. “I will do what you ask.”

“I know.”
