I now understand the main reason I did what I did in taking Jeanie in as My Fair Lady. Reading the book Love and Survival is most enlightening. Dr. Ornish says and I concur that:

Someone who is feeling isolated, depressed or lonely is cutting himself off from the source of the energy of love or life or health, and that in turn, can lead to illness. Anything that promotes intimacy leads to greater joy and healing; anything that promotes isolation leads to more suffering and illness. Loneliness is one of the leading causes of death in this country and certainly a major factor in heart disease.
