“Longer end toward my chest,” I mutter. “Push through the loop and—fuck! Whose idea was bow ties?”

Jacobs’s voice fills my head: It was your idea, dumbass.

Okay, so I might have told him I wanted to wear just bow ties on our wedding night while we fuck. Seemed like a good idea a few months ago when Baby asked. Regrets, I have a few, but bow ties can be put on that list.

“Baby, help me.” I turn to my sister.

“I don’t know how to tie a bow tie. Want me to go get Dad?”

“Hell no. Anyone but him.” While Dad has definitely been accepting of my relationship with Jacobs after his first initial bad reaction, he’s the last person I want getting in my head right now.

Jacobs and I built our hockey camp from the ground up, and it’s our lives. It’s our passion. But our apartment is shitty, and our income is minimal. Money isn’t the reason we wanted to coach emotional, hormone-filled teenagers. Hockey makes us happy. And giving the opportunity to kids who otherwise can’t afford to play makes us feel like we’re making a difference in the sport. Hockey shit is expensive.

Even with all of that, Dad likes to remind me of the life I gave up to live this one. Glitz, glamor, and the insane lifestyle of the rich elite.

Did I like having money and not having to budget? Of course. But I never felt at home in that world.

My home is Jacobs.

The ice.

The game.

“I’ll find some reinforcements,” Baby says and marches toward the ceremony site.

I take a deep breath and try the knot again, but my fingers fumble. I’m so not going to get this. Should’ve got the ones that clip around the neck.

“Need help?” Cohen, my ex-teammate, says behind me.

I turn to find another of our old teammates, Asher, with him. “Do you guys know how to tie a bow tie?”

Cohen laughs at me, and Asher steps forward.

“I had to learn when West got married,” Asher says.

“You’re not going to choke me with it, are you?”

Asher snorts. “Tempting, but I’m past all my anger and aggression.”

“Is that why you got into a fight with Patrick Orlov from Philly on the ice last season?”

“That fucker tripped me,” Asher mutters and reaches for the tie around my neck. “Besides, that’s the game.”

“You know, Jacobs and I use you as an example when we teach our kids.”

“Oh really?”

“Yep. Of what not to do.”

Asher flips me off. “Fuck off. Do you want me to do your tie or not?”

“I’m just saying, there’s nothing wrong with aggressive play. When it’s called for.”

“Stop trying to coach me, Coach. I get enough of that from West and Coach Hogan. They both call me after every game, and now that Coach is moving to Buffalo, he can lecture me in person about every move I did wrong.”

I grin. “If you and Kole get married, you get to call Coach Hogan Daddy.”

Asher screws up his face. “Never going to happen. Thank God. Kole isn’t into the whole wedding and marriage thing.
