Chapter ten
Just One Night
I rolled onto my back and stared at the brown, wooden ceiling of the small cabin, breathing heavily. Sweat began pouring down my face now that my body was still, but my heart was racing.
âHoly mother of fuck,â I murmured.
Parker panted, slowing down every few breaths. He murmured his agreement to my sentiment, but didnât say a word. What he managed to do was turn his head around and look at my body, then my face.
The searing sensation of lactic acid in my muscles warned of aching muscles tomorrow. Totally worth it, I thought, heaving in another deep breath of air. âWait there,â I said and got out of the bed. Just by the door, a small shelf held extra linens and a few towels. I picked up a small one and returned to the bed, reaching for Parkerâs cute, bony hip and flipping his body around.
Parker tucked his hands under his head and grinned, not even a little shy about it. I like that. He lay on his back, biting his lower lip, naked and soft. I wiped the mess weâd made off of him, then myself, and threw the towel on the floor planks.
When I returned to the bed, I lay on my side, near the narrow tip of the triangular shape of the mattress. The bed was long enough that I could stretch fully and still have a few inches to spare.
âHow long do we have?â Parker asked finally, his voice tranquil.
I sucked a breath in through my teeth and narrowed my eyes. âEight in the morning, the cars are picking us up for the harvest.â
âI meant here,â Parker said. âWhen does this ship turn around?â
âLike I said. We need to be ready by eight.â I grinned when I met his surprised gaze. Had I really rented an entire ship for a whole night? Yep. I hadnât planned for this, exactly. But I also hadnât ignored the very real possibility. I would have gladly spent the night with him up on the deck, stargazing or fishing. I wouldnât have minded it.
But Iâd known this could happen and Iâd let it. The temptation⦠It had been too sweet to resist.
âDayton Young,â Parker murmured, shaking his head and forcing away a bright smile, but failing epically. It only grew brighter. âYouâve set the bar pretty high.â
âI couldnât resist it,â I said and snorted at myself. I couldnât resist you. But, instead of saying it, I leaned in and placed a hand on his smooth cheek, then kissed his lips for a long while.
Then I remembered we had a bottle of champagne on the floor, barely touched. With sparks of joy bursting in my heart, I picked the bottle up and took the first swig before handing it to Parker. âGood stuff,â I said of the champagne.
Parker smiled even more as he pressed the bottle against his lips and pulled a long sip. A sudden thought tugged at my heart. It had all started with a sip of beer.
