Chapter 9
They arrived at Hannah’s cabin with all three vehicles intact.
Hannah let the dogs out so they could run around and take care of their business, while she attempted to unload her Explorer.
Sher joined Glen at the bottom of the front porch, both looking at the painted words under the picture window. Glen could tell she was remembering her own harrowing adventure, so with the desire to comfort, he pulled her close as he whispered, “We both survived, and Brad and Hannah will survive this too.”
“I know. As long as you are beside me, I know I’m not alone. And neither are Brad and Hannah.” Glancing around to make sure no one else heard her, she said, “I think Brad and Hannah found each other. Have you seen the looks they pass back and forth? It makes me happy to see some light in his eyes.”
“Yes, I can see those two are close. Some good always comes out of the bad,” Glen said, as he kissed the top of Sher’s head.
Walking back to Glen’s jeep, Sher called to Brad, “We brought groceries, and anything else we thought the four of us might need. We should have enough food for a week,” she laughed.
Carrying in her armload of bags, Sher told Hannah how beautiful her home was, “It’s gorgeous up here. And the cabin has the feel of warmth and love. I really like the colors you used.”
“Thank you; I put part of me in every room. I still have some work to do. Say, maybe while you and Glen are here, I can talk you both into helping Brad and I paint. Do I stand a chance?” Hannah asked with a big smile.
“I think that’s a wonderful plan. It will be a lot of fun.” Sher liked Hannah.
“What are you two cooking up behind our backs” Glen asked, while setting their suitcases down next to the sofa.
The girls gave each other a conspiracy smile as Sher answered, “Just some fun.”
When all the vehicles were unloaded, the four of them joined in the kitchen. While Hannah and Sher put groceries up and decided what to cook, Glen explained everything that happened to Sher and himself over the past week.
Brad sat still and watched Sher move around the kitchen. He felt guilty for the distance he put between them since their parents died. He couldn’t be more proud of her as a woman, as he listened to the way she handled each situation the past week. He also saw the glances she and Glen shared. He was glad she came to her senses, and let Glen back into her life. He liked Glen and thought the man was the best thing to happen to his sister.
Sher explained to Hannah about her having Celiac Disease, and was happy to know, since Hannah was a nurse, that she didn’t have to explain what it was. While the girls were in the process of fixing dinner, they joined the conversation when warranted.
“How about after dinner,
