The next morning, he cursed himself for oversleeping and got out of bed with a sense of dread. He’d hoped the night before that he could avoid Taylor altogether if he’d woke up early enough to sneak out the door and not return until late at night. No such luck. Instead, he just had to face the music like a man, even though he felt like the kid now. How could he have let himself go like that?! How?! As he walked down the stairs, he could hear music from the pool and decided to just have things over with. With a new sense of determination he headed outside, his stomach feeling it had been tied into knots. Trying hard to look upbeat, ready to downplay what had happened if she allowed him to, or to assume full responsibility, he went outside.

Taylor, after getting over her own surprise at having broken down in front of him, surprised even more by how what he thought mattered so much to her, had decided to put the pressure on instead of backing down.
