CHAPTER 12

Logan

Kate is all I was looking for in a woman. Angel was so excited to see her. They talked and laughed so much last night and I couldn't be happier even though I felt like a third wheel.

I never wanted to be in a relationship after my ex left us, nor did I have the time. It was too painful, and my heart didn't deserve it. Still today I can’t even say her name without remembering all that pain.

It was so normal though to introduce Angel to Kate. They bounded instantly, it was amazing seeing their complicity even though they just met. It made me love Kate even more. She showed a sweet side I haven't seen so far and made me realize she's just perfect for me, but above all, for Angel.

Patrolling was quiet and plain and the day passed quickly.

"Hey Reed, how's the squad?" McGill asks. With all the soldiers at the base I’ve ended up with this douchebag. I have known him since we enlisted. I’ve never been able to stand him, through basic and two tours together, the guy’s always been a dick.

"They are okay."

"Just okay? I was thinking of applying to join them."

"How come?"

"Less stress, better pay, more time for family..."

"Yeah sure, what family? Just say more time to drool over Miss Miller," Jackson cuts him off, laughing.

"True, that's a huge bonus. Oh God, the things I'd like to do to her.” He smirks “Tell us more about her. How is she?"

"I don't know if they're looking for new members, but Miller is not on the plate," I snap back. It drives me crazy hearing him talking about her.

"Is she married?" asks McGill.

"Kind off."

"He's a lucky bastard."

"Yeah, I know." I smirk.

"Since when you cared about their status, huh?" asked Jackson.

"I don't care about that, when they spread their legs for me, pleading with me for more is all that matters."

I'd like to punch him, so bad. I clench my fists until my knuckles become white. Am I jealous? I've never been a jealous person but hell, if he doesn't stop talking about her, I'll shut his mouth myself.

When he parks the car, I rush out before doing something stupid.

We go to sign we're back and leave all the guns in the armory.

"I can't believe the day ended," says Jackson once we left the armory.

"What's going on up there?" he asks, pointing to a group of soldiers at the track. We head there, curious about what's going on.

"Why the fuck are you’re not tired?" asks Max, looking at Kate, sweaty and out of breath.

“It’s because of age, Max. You should know betting on me is not wise!” Kate says, giving five to Hewitt.

"I'm not old, just injured, and couldn't do it myself or I'd have beat your ass," he says.

"Wanna bet?" she replies playfully.

"Fuck me, no."

"See, you're just a pussy!" she teases him and he replies with a middle finger. Hewitt is cracking up and Reyes is about to cry holding his laugh.

She walks through the crowd, wiping her sweat when the dickhead McGill smirks, walking to her.
