CHAPTER THIRTEEN

“We found something very strange.” said Megan. “Cara, please tell them what we found.”

“The name of one person on the first list shows up in an obituary.” she said. “This person contracted the virus and died. We have circled the names of the other members of his family.”

“Dom and I do not have anything to report.” said Jude. “What about Karl and you?”

“Karl and I found two people who appear in the first and the second list. They were ex-employees of the Transport Company. They too were victims of the virus.” Mignonne said. “We have noted down the names of the surviving members of their families.”

“Now that we have found out the commonality, what do we do next, little one?” asked Karl.

“We need to inform the Commissioner. He can send his detectives to investigate whether the other members of the family were affected by the virus.” she replied. “Also, the number of active cases that were reported from both the companies.”

“In order for him to appoint a task force to do what we suggest, he needs a logical reason.” said Cara. “So many people have died on contracting the virus that are not associated with the companies.”

“I agree, sis!” replied Mignonne. “That is why we need to find out how many people who succumbed to the virus were related to the people who were working in those two companies.”

“She has a point, Cara.” said Megan. “The transport company and the air services are the largest of all the companies in the city. They provide employment to nearly 75% of the population. I remember doing a term paper where I had to write down these statistics. Every neighbourhood has at least one member of the family who is employed in either one company.”

“I have a very strong feeling that the thefts were committed by the ex-employees.” said Mignonne. “They must have joined forces and planned the heist.”

“Have they traced the other vehicles which were stolen?” asked Cara, looking at Jude.

“Yes, two others were found just like the first one abandoned near an old railway station which is not being used now.” said Jude. “I thought I had shared this information with y’all?”

“No, dear buddy, you didn’t!” said Dom, playfully boxing him. “What about the hair samples and fabric they had found in the earlier truck? Did they find a match?”

“Yes, they did!” replied Jude. “Guess what?”

“Those people are dead!” said Cara and Mignonne.

“Hey Jude, ask the Commissioner to send their names to you!” said Cara. “I am sure we will find them in these lists.”

“Exactly what I was going to suggest!” said Mignonne, clapping her hands.

“How will the names of these dead people help the investigation?” I asked, with a puzzled look on my face.

“Wait and see, girl!” said Megan. “Our ‘ingenious duo’ knows what they are talking about.”

“I agree, sis!” I said, smiling at her. “Way to go my amazing friends!”

“Thank you, Megan and Veronica! You are very kind.” said Cara.

We clapped for the sister duo.

“This is a great angle to the case.
