I let NaShara sleep for a couple of hours before I wake her up. She blinks groggy eyes open at me, and I grin down at her.

“Come with me,” I whisper, pulling her out of bed and grabbing a few things from her armoire before I drag her over to the window.

“Where are we going?” she whispers, looking at the small bag of her belongings I packed.

“You’re coming with me,” I say as I throw her over my shoulder and silently climb down the trellis.

She stays silent until I get to the bottom and set her on her feet. Her eyes are wide looking from me back up to her window like she’s not sure if she should come with me or stay here. I make the decision for her, grabbing her hand and pulling her after me as we run across the grass. I put her on my shoulder again as we climb over the wall, and then I’m pulling her behind me once again as we weave through the forest toward my place.

We don’t stop running until we reach the base of the mountain. I slow down, listening to hear if anyone is following us before I move the cover away from my door and push NaShara into the cave. I follow after her, covering the door once again before I turn and light the lantern.

“Welcome home,” I tell her as she looks around the place.

“This is where you live?” she asks as she wanders to the back where my bed is.

“Yeah. I know it’s no palace, but it’s home for me.”

“I like it,” she admits, smiling as she runs her fingers along the stone walls.

“You do?”

“Yeah. I’ve always loved nature and being outdoors, but being the Princess, I rarely get to enjoy either.”

“Then this will be your home now too.”

“What? Really?”

“Yes. I want you to stay here with me. I can care for you and protect you. I’ll love you more than anyone else ever could,” I promise, and her eyes soften.

“You love me?”

“More than anything,” I admit, walking over to her.

“I love you too,” she says with a soft smile.

I set the lantern down on the floor before I take her hands in mine.

“I know that this place isn’t much, but I would be honored if you stayed with me.”

“Okay,” she whispers, stepping closer to me.

“Are you sure? Your life will be harder here, outside of the castle walls,” I warn her, but she cuts me off.

“It will also be happier.”

My lips claim hers then, and I kiss her like my life depends on it. Her lips are puffy and red when we finally break apart and I lead her over to the bed, helping her lay down next to me.

“I’ll show you around the village tomorrow,” I promise, eager to show her off to my friends and the people in town.
