***SaveWall***

As Trevor plunges headlong into certain death, you run to the three people huddled close to the castle walls. They are bruised and scratched. But despite this, they've been perfectly groomed and dressed in clean, well-made clothes. Like you would prepare a corpse before putting it in the ground.

“We're here to rescue you – well, the whole castle, really.”

They look to you and the monster and back. They don't appear to have a lot of faith in your abilities.

“We're going back into the castle,” you tell them. This plan, they like, even if they seem confused by how you could do this.

“Step lively, folks!” you shout, whistling an upbeat tune. You are trying to distract them from the instant death looming just a few hundred feet away.

They hadn't ventured too far from where they were let out. You try to shoulder open the gate, but it was made to hold back armies.

“You think no one has tried that? Everyone before us tried to get back in,” says the calm man between pipe puffs.

“Not all of them had this,” you say, pulling out a rope.

“Great. A rope. We're saved,” the man says sarcastically. The woman doesn't seem to know what's going on, and the other man is eying the rest of your equipment.

“Not just any rope. This I stole from a thief,” you look at them proudly, but they're not impressed. Anyway, you loop the rope and sail it over the wall. Its enchantment makes it miraculously easy to work with. It catches the lever on the other side that opens the gate.

The three of them cheer you on as the gate begins to open. It opens about a foot then stops. Guards inside have grabbed it and held it tight. A guard leans over the wall and shouts at you. He's tall, slender, with rope-colored hair. He seems like he's in charge.

“You! Stop it this instant! These people have been sentenced to die!”

“I think their death sentence is more of a question,” you say, proud of your ability to pun in the face of punishment. “We're going to save everyone, starting with these three.”

An arrow skims past you, embedding in the dirt. This catches your attention.

“The monster eats three people a night. I don't care who they are. But I'd be glad to feed it one more,” the guard captain says.

“No one has to die!” you yell back.

The gate is still open a foot. You can get them inside. It might be a bit of a struggle. And that guard captain seems to be pretty good with a bow. You could try to put him in a Trance, and have him tell his underlings to let you in without a fight. Anything that doesn't end in bloodshed is a pretty good choice for you, but you wonder if the spell would work since he's flushed with adrenaline right now. He could have done some real damage when he fired on you. But he didn't. He deliberately missed. He might still be open to negotiating.
