This extends into business especially. We get cheated, particularly as women or as marginalized people. We have been told that people do us a favor by wanting to hire us. All our lives, we have received the jacked-up message that we are less significant and more disposable, and we should yield for everyone else’s convenience. So then we internalize it all and wire our mouths shut to protect ourselves.

I do not blame us one bit. The world really has done the job of convincing us that we are liabilities instead of assets, and it’s utter bullshit. Some of the fight has been abused out of us, so we are getting deceived left and right, underpaid, overworked, and underappreciated.

The systems of oppression stacked against us devalue us and render us at their mercy. I am VERY clear on that. White men are the measuring stick of it all because they’ve created it and run it like the unfair well-oiled machine it is.

It is why a white woman makes 79 cents for every dollar Biff makes.
