Because of my faith, I do not view my company’s success as because of me. My success is because God has chosen to bless me, my partner and the people in my company. I think it would be very easy for a non-Christian entrepreneur to be very full of himself and herself. The Christian faith, for me, is a lot to do with keeping humble. I think that’s one side of that.8

As Lutz explains, “I make no secret of my faith at work. At the same time, I’m not evangelizing on a daily basis either.” In his mind, being a partner and cofounder of a company does not give him the right to evangelize to coerce hearers. Lutz explains the practical consequences, which may seem counterintuitive at first; for example, Safe has had a prayer group for many years, “which I intentionally don’t go to.” He further explains that “I have to be mindful of appearing to have a more special relationship with one group of people than others. I don’t want that to be a problem. I want to encourage those that go to the prayer group. I also want to not discourage others that don’t, or make them think that they’re somehow lesser employees.”

The bottom line is that with a clear meaning framework, he can be clear about his own beliefs and equally clear that he is not favoring any particular group. His hope, Lutz says, is that
