I feel years younger when Scar slides a bowl of tomato soup in front of me paired with a grilled cheese sandwich. I didn't realize I was hungry until the smell hits me. My stomach starts rumbling and it takes all of my self-restraint to wait for him to sit down before I dive in.

I am transported to my youth with the first bite. It wasn't a happier time for me, but it was easier. I didn't have to worry about responsibilities or handling the difficult setbacks that life often brings. "Mhmm," I moan as enjoy the childhood favorite, "this is good."

Scar's face scrunches into a curious smile. "I'm glad you like it." Those are the last words that pass between us for several minutes. He has three grilled cheese sandwiches piled up in front of him that he puts away in no time. Each bite is carefully dipped into the soup and then placed in his mouth, savored for just a second before being chewed up and swallowed. He eats the way he does everything else: without hesitance and in a way that makes me wish I could be that thing.

"Are you enjoying the show?"

The abrupt question draws me from my fantasy and throws me hard into reality. Blush stains my cheeks and I drop the last of the sandwich in my hands right into my soup. Tomato splatters everywhere, covering me in droplets of red. "Oh, uh, um," I start to stutter, "well, um, shit."

His eyes darken with lust. I can tell what he's thinking because those same primal thoughts are shifting through my head, too. "Tell me, Marilyn," Scar grabs a napkin and wipes at the corner of his mouth, "when was the last time your fiancé made you feel like this?"

"I-I don't know what you're talking about."

The corner of his lips twitches up as he sets the napkin back down on the table. "Don't play games with me. You're marrying this man, right? Or at least you planned to before you stepped foot on Devil's Peak. So when was the last time he made you feel alive? When did you last look at him the way you're looking at me?"

My body aches. Not the kind of ache you feel after you work out, but the kind of deep longing you feel for someone when you want to have them inside of you. "Scar, I don't know if this is an appropriate conversation." The words barely slip past my lips.

"Isn't it?" He asks with a slight tilt of his head. "You look at me as if I'm the only man who might ever satisfy you. When did your fiancé last satisfy you, Marilyn?"

The way he says my name sends my heart into overdrive. "This isn't—"

"Tell me." He cuts me off with a finality that brokers no room for argument.

Shame and humiliation stains my cheeks. "He hasn't. I'm a virgin, Scar, in more ways than just hiking. Langton and I live together, but he won't touch me until we're married.
