We rode out with the MC’s road captains, two to a group. Road Captains stopped traffic at intersections to keep the group together as we made our way to each stop for the poker run. Both me and Gunner served as road captains for the club, but I skipped out on it today since Sam road with me. Being road captain can be dangerous when drivers don’t see us at intersections. I didn’t want to put her in any dangerous situations that day, so, other members filled in for me.
Temps warmed up as the sun rose higher from morning into the afternoon. We stopped in at local restaurants and bars to pick our next poker card. Thoughts of Sid and the Hell Hounds kept nagging at me. I tried to keep them out of my head and focused on Sam. Riding on my bike; her little warm body snuggled up behind me, and her thighs hugged my hips. Her body moved with mine. When I leaned my bike into a curve, she leaned with me.
We were the first back to the clubhouse before the others. There were a few vendors who had their tents set up, displaying what they specialized in selling – leathers, patches, bike parts, helmets and other things that appealed to us bikers. A wooden stage was built inside the clubhouse with the first of many local bands setting up and doing a sound check. The smell of hamburgers and hotdogs floated in the air around the parking lot from the grills set up outside.
I sat with Sam at the bar in the clubhouse, finishing off my second beer as she was halfway through her first one. Her cheeks were rosy pink from the wind. Her dark hair was a bit messy from the numerous times her lid was off and then back on again. And she smelled like leather, and strawberries too.
I lit a smoke taking a nice long drag. I kept my hands to myself all day even though they were fidgety and wanted to be all over her. Sam seemed to enjoy the ride, and I didn’t want to see that faraway look she had at the Crow Bar. I was sure it was memories of Sid and the Hounds. So, it wouldn’t have made it better with my hands groping her too.
Gunner just pulled in with the group he rode with and grabbed a barstool next to mine.
“I hope the Prez didn’t rake you over the coals too much, Ratchet.”
He opened his beer bottle that one of the Chaos chicks working the bar brought him.
“No, brother. It’s all good. Just still trying to let it sink in. I wear the patch now. Chaos has my back.”
“You got that right dammit…”
Gunner tipped his beer to me and took a drink.
I turned to Sam on my other side. She had finished her second beer. I had no idea what her tolerance was, but I kept an eye on her. The first band on stage started playing their set with some covers of classic ZZ Top.
