Chapter Nine

Riley sat in the parking lot just outside of the office building where Claire and Anna worked. It was still a few minutes before five, and he was waiting for her to come out.

He was happy to take her over to the storage unit to get her belongings, but it pissed him off that her douche-bag ex was still trying to control some piece of her life. The fucker just didn’t know when to let go.

His killer instinct kicked in and told him to rub out the piece of shit, but he knew things where never that simple.

Besides bringing heat to the family, it’d upset Anna. For that matter, Riley had never killed someone who wasn’t trying or planning to kill him or someone in the family.

Maybe he’d stop by soon to have a little chat with Jason, but that wouldn’t work unless Anna approved, and from what he could tell, it’d only upset her.

Anna stepped out of the building and locked the door. He felt himself grow hard as he watched her. All of her long blonde hair was wound up on top of her head. Her legs were highlighted by the pencil skirt she was wearing, and her blouse open just enough so he could enjoy the bit of cleavage that peeked out the top.

He grunted both in lust and annoyance.

She was stunning and didn’t even seem to know it. Jason cheating on her had taken a bit of her self-esteem, and if Riley had to guess, she had spent a good deal of time comparing herself with the women Jason had cheated on her with. To him, though, there was no comparison.

Anna had a beauty about her that was more than just her looks. It was the way she smiled and laughed, the way she looked first thing in the morning with no makeup on, the way she looked when she came with her cheeks flushed and lips parted slightly.

Riley shifted in his seat to try to relieve some of the pressure he was feeling down south. Just looking at her made him want her even more.

It wasn’t exactly like he was a stranger to women, but he couldn’t remember any woman ever making him feel like this before. He’d wanted her for a while now, but now that he’d been with her, he had a hard time thinking about anything else.

Anna smiled as she opened the door and slid into the front seat of the car.

“Thanks for helping me out,” she said. “Jason said the storage place was on Main Street.”

“You have the keys?”

“Yes. He already gave them to me.”

He was a bit disappointed. For a moment, he liked the idea of stopping by at Jason’s with her to menace the man a little.

His thoughts returned to the storage facility. Riley knew the place. It was one several Kelly family “associates” often liked to use. It wasn’t really the place he’d think of a clean-cut lawyer using.

He snickered. Unless Jason was doing things that he didn’t care for others to find out about, like his then wife and now ex-wife.
