Zach smiled. He was glad she’d chosen to sleep in the living room. “Good decision. I’d rather keep you within eyesight anyway.” He untied the strings holding the roll tight and unfurled it onto the carpet.

Lani scrounged through a closet in the guest bedroom and found an undamaged pillow. She lay in the bag, turned onto her side and punched the pillow, wadding it up beneath her head. A moment later, she rolled to her other side and performed the same punching ritual. Then she lay still for an entire minute.

Zach held his breath. Had she really gone to sleep this time? He prayed she had, because he wasn’t sure how long he could watch her wiggle and squirm without dropping down on the bag and holding her spooned in his arms.

Lani’s eyes popped open, she sat up on the sleeping bag and wrapped her arms around her legs.

Zach chuckled. “You won’t get much sleep sitting up.”

She gave him a crooked grin. “I’m still wound up.”

He did what he shouldn’t have even considered and dropped down behind her. “Come here.” He pulled her up against his body, stretched his legs out on either side of hers and massaged the back of her neck. “Better?”

“Mmm,” she moaned. “Much.”

Better for her, but not for him.

With her bottom rubbing against his crotch, his groin tightened, his cock pushing hard against the zipper of his jeans. Zach paused his massage to shift, trying to adjust for his purely physical reaction to being so close to this woman.

She leaned her head back and to the side to look up into his eyes. “Why did you stop?”

“There are some things better left unsaid.” He grimaced and shifted again in his jeans. “You’re doing crazy things to me.”

“What do you mean?” Lani’s brow puckered.

He moved forward, nudging her backside with the hard ridge beneath his jeans. “That’s what I mean. I’m not a saint. And you’re a very desirable woman.” He bent to press a kiss to her forehead. “I think this is a very bad idea.” He started to get up, but a hand on his thigh stopped him.

“Don’t go,” she said. She turned, facing him, still sitting between his outstretched legs, one hand resting on his thigh. “Did you really mean what you said?”

“What? That I’m not a saint?” He laughed. “You know from experience I’m not. You dragged my ass into confinement for fighting with that Marine.”

“No, did you mean what you said…about me?” Her gaze captured his, and then lowered to his mouth.

“Oh, sweetheart, the part about you being desirable?” He drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to get his pulse in check. She had him tied up in a tight little knot of lust that could leave him completely unraveled. “Every word. You’re a beautiful woman.”

She looked at him as if he’d lost his mind. “I’m far from it. I’m plain. And I don’t wear makeup or do my hair.”

“You’re not plain.” Zach brushed his knuckles along her jaw.
