Chapter Seventeen: Leila
Drew’s surgery was successful and there were no complications. Drake said it was textbook. Thank you, sweet baby Jesus.
I walked into Drew’s room with Brody and Damon bringing up the rear and low and behold who did I find, Nurse Brooke. Great, my day just keeps getting better and better. Deciding against letting the green monster rear its ugly head, I settled on killing her with kindness.
“Good morning Brooke.” I smiled so sweetly I felt my blood sugar spike off the charts.
“Good morning. Drew’s doin’ pretty good. He’s still out of it, but his vitals are stable. We should be able to move him to a step down bed later today or tomorrow, barring any unforeseen issues.”
“That is great news. Thank you so much for your help.” I continued to lay it on thick. Brooke looked at me like I had ten heads. Just about that time Drew opened his eyes and scanned the room.
“Hey sis, where’s my breakfast?” he mumbled.
Leave it to him to ask for food only minutes after getting out of recovery.
“It’s downstairs in the cafeteria. You’ll have to settle for Jell-o, crackers and ginger ale there pal.”
“Hey Damon, what’re ya doin’ here?”
“Seriously, where else would I be dude? You got shot and I just heard about it this morning when I went to Brody’s.” Damon sat in the chair next to the bed.
“My bad man, not exactly like I’ve been able to call anyone,” Drew countered.
“True, good point. I’ll let it slide this time.” Damon chuckled, nodding his head.
Then slutty Nurse Brooke chimed in with her singsong tone, “Hate to be a party pooper, but we have to limit this little reunion to two visitors at a time. I need one of you to wait in the hallway or waiting room around the corner.”
Oh hell to the no. I knew what she was up to. She was trying to get Brody alone in the hallway to make her I’m-an-easy-whore eyes at him again and beg him to screw her in the supply closet.
Brody started to offer when I said, “You guys stay, I’m gonna run down to see if Drake is still here so I can thank him for taking such good care of my big brother.”
That wench had the nerve to just stand there and watch me with daggers shooting out her eyes. I started to leave when Brody stopped me, pulled me into a tight hug and kissed me like I was going on an African safari for a year.
Holy crap. I needed a new pair of panties.
Drew and Damon all but cleared their throats as a way of saying hey we’re still here. Brody released me and I stumbled backward and left the room. Brooke came out the room a minute later looking rather disappointed, and went back to the nurse’s station.
I took my cell out of my bag and called Drake. Unfortunately, he had already left the hospital, so I had to settle for talking to him on the phone. I filled him in on the Brody situation and told him that he, Barb and I needed a night out soon.
