Bee’s family is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. A mismatched puzzle of pieces that shouldn’t fit, yet they do. Chandler and Lexi look like they can’t keep their hands off each other, but attempt to for everyone else’s benefit. Marcus is an old soul. I could tell from the moment I met him. He was telling me about a program his school started where they bring animals to school for kids to read to. He said it helps kids with anxiety or that need help reading aloud without feeling judged, and the animals enjoy the attention. I plan to implement it at the shelter as soon as this dumb wedding is over. I wish I could just cancel it and hang out with the Robinsons all week, but at the same time, I can’t wait to hug Mama D. Dorothy Allen was my dad’s baby sister. She’s the only mom I remember, and I have felt the urge to thank her for loving me as her own.

“We should get going,” Berkeley brushes cookie crumbs from her mouth and I fleetingly wonder if she’d still taste like one

It’s been hot and cold between us since the beginning, but in the past week the air between us has transitioned into scorching heat wave.

“You ready?”

Looking over, I realize Berkeley is standing by her chair, watching me with concern.

“What did I miss?” I ask, clearing my throat.

“I better drop you with your family,” Berkeley says, and I can tell by her expression she’s repeating it.

“So, do you think my family will be as cool as yours?”

I make conversation and we step onto the front porch, having said a quick good-bye to everyone.

“My family? Cool?” Berkeley shrugs off the compliment with a laugh.

“Can I drive?”

“Drive?!” She asks, stopping in her tracks at the back of the jeep. “Drive my old rundown hunk of junk.” She pats the rear window, smiling at the beast with affection. “I suppose I’ll let you, but only because I’m super tired of the GPS arguing with me.
