52 O’Malley refers to Inishmore, or Inis Mór in Irish, and on occasion to Aran Mor in these diaries; the name Inishmore is used consistently here. Throughout these diaries he also refers to the North or Big Island (Inishmore), the Middle Island (Inishmaan) and the Small or South Island (Inisheer). This 1941 diary is written in at least five notebooks, of which the first and fifth have not been found, but the other three are in the Ernie O’Malley Papers, Archives of Irish America (AIA060), New York University Library, Box 10, Folders 7A/B/C. They were written in late September or October 1941. O’Malley wrote ‘Nobody’s Business’ on the cover of the notebooks.
