David didn't know what sent her out the door so fast but didn't care. He typed fast, searching data files, tapping into records. He had about three minutes before someone in Tech would notice, and trace him. He opened her private records, mortgage, water bill. Then he found the phone records. She had two of them. Personal and a private. He tapped the private. Alarms would be sounding somewhere in the building where a bored technician was reading PC World and eating a danish. David's fingers flew over the keyboard and he sent the file to his AOL account, then logged off and cleared the history. He was a techy, a geek of the first water, he admitted. He removed the secondary trace and sent that to another account.

She entered the office and he glanced up and smiled. She didn't even look at him, her steps quick and silent on the carpet. Her face was flushed, her eyes a little red. She paced the office for a moment, then got some coffee. Even from this distance, David could hear the cup and saucer chink nervously.

If he didn't know better, he'd swear she was scared.
