The next morning, after an almost sleepless night, Brittany called the office to check in and see how Katherine was doing. Sitting in her bedroom, where the bed was still made from yesterday, she had showered and changed clothes this morning and repacked her backpack.

"Good morning," she called happily, knowing if Gina knew how much sex she'd had last night, she would be shouting it to the world. And while Brittany had a great time, this was something she wanted to keep between herself and Mark. After all, when this was over, he would never see her again.

"Well, you are Little Miss Sunshine this morning," Gina said.

And she was. Even though she should feel exhausted, she felt refreshed. Just those few hours of sleep had left her feeling great.

"Are you coming home today? We really miss you," Gina said. "What with Katherine out and Jennifer still in honeymoon lala land, the agency needs you."

No doubt what she said was true, but maybe it was time for the rest of them to pick up the slack for a change. Not that she didn't know that Jon Paul and Shaggy were not busy, but the main collectors were herself, Katherine, and Jennifer.

"Gina, I have no idea when I'll be back. But I'm not leaving my bounty. He needs my protection and I think he's going to prove he's not guilty."

There was a moment of silence. "So what are you doing out there with him?"

"We're going to visit the board members and show them the evidence he has gathered about them and how he's innocent."

More and more, she believed he was innocent. All it would take was a few more clues and she could put the pieces of the puzzle together and then this would be over. And Mark would walk out of her life. And that's what she had to remember.

"Well, hurry back. Jennifer needs you."

"Why don't you go out on a hunt with her. You could be her backup," she said, teasing.

There was a loud screech on the phone. "Are you crazy? I'm an old white woman. They would shoot me on sight."

Brittany laughed. "Transfer me to Jennifer."

She really needed to talk to her cousin. Though she wasn't ready to confess to what was going on in her life at the moment.

"Get yourself home," Gina said and transferred her.

"When are you coming back?" Jennifer said, sounding harried. "I need some help here."

Why could everyone else have a private personal life and Brittany couldn't? This was her brief time with Mark, and like everything else in her life, it would end some day soon. Then she would have to pick up the pieces and carry on.

"Don't know. How is Katherine?"

A chuckle came across the phone. "Last I heard, her mother was ready to kill her and said she was the worst patient ever. But the most interesting part is Detective Antonio's daughter has been coming over and watching television with Katherine. And her father doesn't know."

That was a strange occurrence.

"And why would she do this?"

Especially with Katherine calling him Detective Baby Daddy.
