Chapter 9 - The New Normal
d
The first day was hard, thanks to Jack being there. And seeing how he didnât leave, day two was worse, and starting with day three, I felt like climbing the walls.
We barely managed to steal a dozen kisses each day. I took to waking up as early as Charles for the chance to spend a few minutes making out with him in the kitchen before work while Jack still slept.
For the first half of each day, I maintained my cover, by helping Isabella set up Flowers and Fiction, working with her on everything from dealing with the bank to her social media presence. I also kept in touch with my friend from LA, in case she could tell me anything new about the threat.
After a strategy meeting-slash-lunch with Isabella, I got an Uber to Tomâs place, to have the best lemonade in Texas and look through Moore Oil accounts. Tom let me use his log in and answered my questions, like he used to when I was fourteen. He knew the business was going through a rough patch, but I didnât tell him about the threat. Like Charles, he thought it was part of the regular ups and downs of a company. There was nothing he could do, so I let him think so.
In the evenings, Steve and Mary Anne saw it as their duty to make me feel welcome in Dallas. And, possibly, to check that I wasnât causing their beloved Charles a stroke. As such, when I came back from Tom and Charles came back from work, we barely had time to smooch because we were going out with Steve, Mary Anne and Jack.
And then there were the nights. Charles and I each stayed in our rooms, without as much as talking on the phone. We exchanged very frank and descriptive messages, which we deleted first thing in the morning. If Sir Larry was monitoring our phones, heâd be as horny as us.
On day four we nearly got caught. Jack was supposed to be on a date, and we jumped at the opportunity to have sex. The sound of a car engine outside the window warned us Jack was home when we had barely finished the foreplay.
âCan you finish?â I whispered, although the engine was still running, so Jack wasnât even in the house.
âBaby, not finishing is the tricky part.â
âYouâre a martyr, I get it,â I said. âSacrificing yourself for myââ
The air was squeezed out of my lungs when he let his full weight on me. His hips started hammering into me and his breathing grew labored. I couldâve come just listening to him as he grunted chasing his orgasm.
I pressed my face into his shoulder to muffle the scream I could feel coming just in time to receive his load before we heard Jackâs heavy steps passing just outside the door. We stayed like that, entwined and trying to get our breath back quietly, not moving until we heard Jack slam the door to his room.
