“Hurry, so you can eat with the family.”

Once Molly got Libby inside the fence, the puppy gave her a gloomy look. Before she left, Molly petted Libby and said, “I’ll be back. Don’t look so sad.”

Molly walked inside, sat down, and began eating. The potato salad, pork chops, green beans, and cheesecake tasted great. While the family ate, they talked together. When the meal ended, Molly helped Mom clean the kitchen. Then the two of them headed to the shopping center.

Molly hoped Mom wouldn’t shop too long. She wanted to be on time to the basketball practice. As they shopped, Mom didn’t seem to be keeping up with the time. Molly grew concerned when she realized that Mom hadn’t checked out with the cashier yet. “Can we hurry, Mom? It’s almost time to be there.”

“We’ll get in this line. It’s short.”

When Molly and her mom arrived at the basketball court, Molly rushed to catch up with the other girls. She took her place in line for warm-up shots.

“Hi, Molly,” her friends said.

“Did I miss anything?” Molly asked.

“No. Not a thing,” a fellow teammate named Judy said.

Each of the girls with Molly took their shots. Balls bounced all over the court. Most of Molly’s shots went into the hoop. Her practice sessions had paid off. After more shots, the coach blew the whistle for the practice game to begin. Molly’s team fought to keep the lead. In the end, her team led by four points.

After practice ended, Molly waved good-bye to her teammates and rode home. In the car, Molly talked nonstop about the practice.

“Thursday is the day for our next game. Are you and Dad coming?” Molly asked.

“I’ll be there. Dad might have to work. I’m sure that he’ll come if he can,” Mom said.
