CHAPTER TEN

Jep

Jep pulled his truck into the salon's parking lot and parked, strolling inside. He knew it was a salon for women only, but he had to see her. After upsetting her, he felt like he owed her an apology.

He stood at the front desk, scanning the stations to see if he could see her. And a petite blonde woman came from an open door behind the desk with a cheery smile.

“Welcome! What can I do for you?” She sat at the desk behind her computer and typed away, glancing up at him every few seconds as he tried to determine what to say.

“Can I see Raven?”

It wasn’t very creative, but it was all he had.

“She’s on her lunch break now. Can I help you?” Jep thought fast, not knowing how to convince the woman to let him talk to Raven.

“I have an appointment.”

The woman chuckled and stopped typing. “Honey, this salon is for women exclusively. You can’t have an appointment.”

“No, I swear. I have an appointment.” Jep lied through his teeth, and the woman shook her head.

“Hold on.”

She disappeared into the back room again, and a few seconds later, Raven appeared, eating a cheeseburger partially wrapped in wax paper. She looked shocked to see him and held her hand over her mouth as she chewed.

“I needed to see you.”

When Raven finished her bite of food, she swallowed and shook her head. “I’m working. I don’t have time to talk.”

“Do you have any customers coming in?” He felt impatient. He was not the kind of guy who ever got told to wait—especially by women.

“I don’t right away, no.”

“What’s the receptionist’s name?” he nodded to the blonde who had returned to her computer.

“Haley.”

“Haley, book me for Raven’s—” he looked at the clock “—six o’clock.”

Raven rolled her eyes, and Haley glanced from Raven to Jep. She looked uncertain as if Jep had put her in a tight place.

“It’s fine.” Raven threw the rest of her burger in the bin and barged off toward a workstation. Jep followed on her heels like a puppy wanting a treat. She whipped out a cape and scowled at him, pointing at the chair.

Jep settled in, and she flung the cape over him, fastening it around his neck. She turned his chair and lowered the back until his head whacked the edge of the sink. He winced but said nothing. He deserved that.

Raven turned the water on ice cold and plunged his head beneath the flow, being a bit rough with him. He didn’t blame her; he had acted like an idiot. Soon, however, she began to lighten up, adding shampoo and scrubbing his head.

“Why did you come in here?” she asked as she rinsed his hair, massaging his scalp.

“I came to say I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to embarrass you. I was an ass, and I know that now.”

Jep waited as she continued to work, and she moved closer, standing so near him that her body touched his. And when she leaned down to grab a towel, her breasts brushed over his face arousing him.
