Chapter Thirteen

The alarm clock on Ethan’s phone woke him at seven am. He quickly silenced it and saw a message from Noah. Pack meeting in three hours. Placing his phone back on the nightstand, Ethan turned in Isaiah’s arms. The conversation with his parents came rushing back to him and he let out a long deep sigh. How could his parents have lied to him his whole life? If he hadn’t overheard their argument, would they have ever told him?

The arm around his stomach tightened as Isaiah pulled him closer. “You’re thinking too hard,” Isaiah mumbled in his ear.

“One of us needs to be the thinker in this relationship.” Ethan hid his grin when Isaiah growled playfully.

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

Isaiah rolled him onto his back and Ethan looked up into Isaiah’s eyes as he leaned over him. “Nothing, dear.”

“Oh, really?”

“Sai, don’t you dare,” Ethan tried to sound stern, but the playful gleam in Isaiah’s eyes was contagious.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

He tried to roll away from Isaiah, but his move had been anticipated, and he didn’t get far. He yelped when both of his hands were pinned over his head, held tightly in one of Isaiah’s as the other began to dig ruthlessly into his side. “I swear I’ll get you for this,” he managed to say before losing himself in a fit of laughter. “Stop tickling me!” he begged.

“Not until you take it back,” Isaiah grinned as he continued his torture.

“Alright… alright, you’re a thinker too!” He yelled, but Isaiah didn’t stop his assault.

Two could play this game. As Isaiah continued to tickle him, Ethan wrapped his legs around his waist, twisting his hips to switch their positions. Looking down into Isaiah’s surprised face, Ethan laughed again before taking his mouth in a kiss. Isaiah immediately opened for him, and it took everything he had not to deepen the kiss when the last thing he wanted to do was pull away.

“Where the hell do you think we’re going?” Isaiah growled, standing when Ethan climbed out of bed and following him into the closet.

“To my parents.” Ethan paused; should he even call them that anymore? “I want to talk to them again now that I’ve calmed down,” his parents had a lot to answer for. “Then I thought we could stop by the cafe and get something to eat.”

“Are you sure you want to go now?” Isaiah asked, wrapping his arms around Ethan from behind.

“Yes, I’m sure. The sooner I go the sooner I’ll know the rest of the story.”

“Okay.” Isaiah didn’t say anything else as they finished getting dressed.

There wasn’t much activity going on that morning and they made it to his parents’ without being gawked at. Once they were standing in front of the door Isaiah stepped in front of him. “No matter what they say, we’ll get through it together.”

“I know.” Ethan only wanted to learn the truth.

Knocking on the door, Ethan waited. After five minutes without an answer, he reached into his pocket for the house key and came up empty handed.
