Chapter Eighteen

Rico was blissfully ignorant, for the moment, of the tension developing in his restaurant, specifically, at his younger sister’s baby shower. After Melanie left his office he’d collapsed on his leather sofa. He was still trying to wrap his mind around what had happened just a few feet away on his desk. Thinking about it wasn’t in his best interest at the moment, but he couldn’t help himself. He finally resigned himself to another cold shower later and left it at that.

Rico knew he and Melanie had some unfinished business from last night. Their interruption hadn’t been well received by either one of them, and he felt mostly responsible. After all, it was his club and his problem that had required his attention. He smiled when he thought about how she’d marched up to the two guys who’d fought and gave them a piece of her mind. His security guys were still laughing about it late last night as they’d closed the club.

Rico was finding it hard to feel guilty about what’d happened between them today. He’d known Melanie needed to get back to the baby shower; however, he couldn’t stop himself when she’d walked through the door and then teased him about what she had on underneath her dress. Talk about fanning the fire! That was all it’d taken to stir up what they’d been forced to abandon last night. In the light of day, ten- thirty in the morning to be exact, Rico had decided they probably didn’t need to let things go quite as far as he wanted, so he’d concentrated on Melanie and her alone.

He was happy to say his efforts hadn’t gone unrewarded! When she’d left his office she’d seemed liked one happy and content little woman. Rico suspected that if a crowd of people hadn’t been expected they could’ve extended their morning a little longer!

Rico was wondering how things were going down the hall. He’d thought about dropping by himself just to make sure everything was running smoothly. He knew the women had it all under control, but he liked knowing things were going okay when it was happening at his business.

Melanie glanced up and noticed Carli and Isa standing nearby with their heads together. It was evident that something was going on because Isa had that “look” on her face that Melanie had come to recognize. It usually meant someone was going to suffer her wrath or certainly not from lack of her trying! Melanie had no idea what could’ve provoked it, especially at her sister’s baby shower of all places! Melanie watched the two sisters closely and finally realized where their gaze was drifting. Evidently the Miami cousins and their beautiful guest was the object of their attention.

Isa looked at Carli and frowned as the two sisters discussed the current situation in the room. They really had no idea why their cousins would’ve dragged Gisela here from Miami.
