ONCE SEATED IN THE restaurant, he ordered an antipasto platter for an appetizer.
As she looked over the menu, her mouth watered. âOh my, they have added a few more pizzas since the last time I was here.â
âThe muffuletta pizza is new. While it is good, I prefer the Carnivore.â
She let out a soft chuckle, âIf you donât hush, I will order half the menu. The chicken and feta pizza sounds good, too, but I read somewhere that feta isnât good for pregnant women to eat.â
âWell, letâs order a couple of pizzas. Then, you can have cold pizza for breakfast.â
She laughed, âI honestly canât believe just how much you remember about me. There is nothing like cold pizza.â Leaning in, she confessed, âIt would drive Bennett nuts when I brought home BBQ chicken from Jim Bobâs just so that I could have it for breakfast.â
âOkay, I admit that I am a little dumbfounded as to why that would drive him nuts?â
âBennett has this thing about leftovers. He never liked even having them in the house.â
They talked and laughed for hours. The night passed by quickly, and before they knew it, the waiter was telling them that they would be closing soon.
Lexi was surprised, âI didnât realize we had been talking so long.â
As Kyle escorted her back to his car, he said, âIt has been a very pleasant evening. One I donât want to end.â
âThank you for making this night perfect. It is just what I needed to take my mind off the problems I had with Bennett earlier.â
He asked, âWe are making it a habit to meet for supper, arenât we?â
âI know. As much as I enjoy it, I am probably keeping you from living your own life.â
He kissed her hand, âFor you, I have no qualms about putting things aside.â
She looked up at him, âYou should be wining and dining women, having your one night stands, and being a playboy. You should not be trying to keep a lonely, pregnant woman from falling into a pit of self-misery.â
She noticed the twinkle in his eyes. âOh please, you are more interesting than any of the women I have met recently. Besides, just the thought of a date with a single woman sends chills down my spine. A root canal would be more pleasurable.â
âThat bad, huh? I must say I am not too anxious about entering the dating pool again.â
Once at her house, he went around and opened the car door for her. He took her hand in his and escorted her to the front door. He placed a finger under her chin and tilted her face up, bending down and kissing her gently, âThank you for having supper with me, Lexi.â
The gentle kiss shook her to the very center of her being. She looked into his eyes and saw the desire building. She wrapped her arms around him and deepened the kiss. He took the keys from her and unlocked the door, âI am glad that I decided to surprise you tonight.
