Chapter 8

Bewildered, Josh sat on the side of the bed holding his phone. He had received a call from one of his superiors, requesting his presence out of the country immediately. It appeared his transfer would be postponed for at least another month. One of the overseas contractors had a problem and had personally requested his expertise to resolve it. His boss apologized profusely, but it couldn’t be helped. His plans to move back and sweep Amelia off her feet had been put on hold.

Amelia. He looked over his shoulder at her. She was sleeping peacefully. They hadn’t long dropped off to sleep, when the phone rang. He grabbed it quickly before it could wake her.

He smiled. She was fully clothed. They both were. After having a great time at the banquet, they had ended the night back at her house, where they climbed into bed, talking and laughing the rest of the night away. He remembered how they use to do that when they were kids. They would pitch a tent out in the back yard and make a pallet of blankets to sleep on, spending most of the night talking about their futures or some event that happened during that day. Josh missed those times. He missed her.

Lying back down, he turned onto his side so he could observe Amelia as she slept. She never gave it a second thought, about having him in her bed. If she knew where his thoughts had taken him, she may have had second, even third thoughts on the matter.

They were so comfortable with each other, as if nothing had changed over the years. But Josh knew for him, everything had changed. Especially the way he held her as they danced to a love song.

He held her close, letting his body mold to hers. Amelia felt so soft in his arms. Josh inhaled her perfume. The sweet fragrance sending his brain signals that were best kept under wraps. He wouldn’t allow himself to think further than their dance. Allowing his mind free reign could permit it to wander upon an erection. He didn’t want to put her off, but she felt so right in his arms. It felt, as if she was right where she should be.

Amelia stirred.

“Good morning. I was hoping you would sleep a little longer. We stayed up most of the night.” Although he wanted her to rest, he needed to tell her he was leaving. They were supposed to spend the day together, but unfortunately duty called.

“Umm…I can sleep later. Do you want some breakfast? I can whip us up something quick,” she told him, while stifling a yawn. She stretched and looked down. She still had her dress on. She couldn’t remember the last time she fell asleep fully clothed. Then she did remember and smiled. The last time was probably with Josh in his parent’s backyard.

“Unfortunately, I can't stay. I got a call from my office. I’m needed to straighten out a problem in Frankfurt, Germany, so I have to leave right away.
