Chapter Eight
âYou did what?â
Tucker glanced up from packing film into his duffel bag to see Cassie clutching the phone with an incredulous look. He pushed his hat back. Whatever had happened, he hoped it wouldnât keep them from leaving.
She sighed heavily. âWell, it canât be helped now, can it? Do you know if Zach is free?â¦Oh, heâs working for Gregor this week. Pete? Julio?â¦Oh, well, Iâll find somebody. You take care of yourself. âBye.â
She hung up the phone and groaned. âGreat. Just great.â
Tucker rose to his feet. âWhat happened?â
âMarc slipped a disc riding a mechanical bull at Spurs and Suds last night.â Her eyes narrowed. âHe said he got the idea from you.â
âMe? All I did was answer questions about rodeo. I didnât know heâd do something loco.â
Cassie rubbed the bridge of her nose. âI know. Marc tends to be a little reckless. But the plane leaves in two hours. Weâve got to be on it if weâre going to make the rodeo. Where am I going to find another assistant?â
Tucker walked over and began massaging her shoulders. He planned on getting rid of her tension in a much more pleasurable way that night. Theyâd already discussed sharing a room at the hotel where they could hang a Do Not Disturb sign on the door and tell the operator to hold their calls. Heâd be climbing into bed with a helluva lot more relish than heâd be climbing on the back of a bull. âDo you really need an assistant?â
She rolled her head to the side, stretching the muscles of her neck under his probing fingers. âIâve never been on a shoot without at least one.â
âYou didnât have any assistants in Florida.â
âTheyâd already gone home. I stayed a day extra to shoot the rodeo.â
âWhat about Susan?â
Cassie shook her head. âSheâs makeup and wardrobe only.â
âWe can handle things between the two of us, canât we?â
Her gaze drifted away as she considered his question. âWell, I suppose. The worst part will be hauling all that equipment around. But I could make do with the bare essentials. If I absolutely have to have something Iâve left behind, I can always rent it in Phoenix.â
He pulled her arms around his waist, tugging her against him. âIf we donât have an assistant tagging along, weâve got that much more time alone.â
Cassieâs eyes dropped to his lips. âYouâve convinced me.â
A familiar warmth stole through him, one he knew heâd remember long after Cassie left him. But he didnât want to consider there might be a time when they wouldnât be together. He wanted to enjoy the now.
He dipped his head slowly and felt his voice deepen. âWant a preview of tonightâs performance?â
Her smile was sultry. âOn the bull?â
âAngel, you can create any fantasies you want.â
Her chuckle turned to a moan as his lips touched hers. He splayed his hands across her back and pulled her tighter as his mouth plundered hers.
âTucker?â she said between kisses.
âHmm?â
âWeâve got to packâ¦â Another kiss. ââ¦the equipmentâ¦â Another kiss. ââ¦and get to the airport.
