CHAPTER 11

ANNA JAMES BENNETT

Yesterday might have seemed a bust for a lot of people but it was perfect for me. Seriously. One of the best days of my life.

We spent the day in the suite doing nothing. We lay on the couch watching rented movies and pigged out on room service. I’m glad; the downtime gave me the opportunity I needed to talk to Meredith.

Geez, I’m scared for Meredith and Grayson. They are in a fucking mess. I’m not sure they’re going to recover from this.

I’m worried about them, but I can’t dwell on their problems. Beau and I are down to our last day in Jamaica, and I want it to be special.

I’m not sad. No reason to be. Our departure home tomorrow isn’t the end of us. It’s the beginning.

I’m standing in front of the mirror with a towel wrapped around my wet hair. I need to know what’s on today’s agenda so I can choose how I’ll fix it. “What are we doing today?”

“I was thinking I want to take you back to Consume for lunch since it’s where we first met.” That’s sort of sweet.

Beau isn’t saying it but we both know this is the only chance we’ll ever have to revisit the place we met. I’ll never return to this resort and if he does, it won’t be with me.

“And what shall we do with the rest of the day?”

“There’s a cool bar on the beach. You can drink, dance . . . and cliff dive.”

I turn from the mirror to look at Beau. “No way I’m jumping off a cliff.”

“You haven’t even seen it.”

“Don’t need to. I don’t like heights.” I’m not really even a huge fan of going out on the balcony.

“You don’t have to jump, but would you consider going with me so I can?”

It’s easy to see he really wants to, and I don’t want to rain on his parade. “Of course, I will.”

“I have to take the rental back by two o’clock, so I guess I’ll do that between lunch and the beach. Probably be gone about an hour and a half. Maybe two. Want to go with me?”

I look at my clothes all over the room. It looks like my closet threw up. “I have an early flight; I’d rather not wait until in the morning to pack. I can work on getting my stuff together while you’re gone then I won’t be so rushed in the morning.”

“Sounds like a good plan.” He comes to me and snakes his arms around my waist. “Because I’ll want to send you off properly in the morning.”

“What time is your flight?”

“Two.” He’ll be in Atlanta by five. Six, our time.

I want to ask him to come over. Maybe even stay the night. But is it too soon? Maybe we need a little breathing room after nine days together.

I’ll see what he says and play it by ear. If he seems eager to be together soon then I'll roll with it.

Consume isn’t that
