Chapter Fifteen

Jason cupped Sarah’s face in his hands, her skin warm and delicate against his palm. His breathing hitched. Everything he ever wanted stood right in front of him.

“We’re not having this discussion with my family watching.” With a sigh, he placed her hands in his. “I feel like a damn fish in a tank. Will you come with me?”

She nodded.

His heart skipped and his breath clogged in his throat. His hand traveled down her arm to her wrist, his fingers resting on her pulse. Her heart raced under his fingertips even though she stood completely still. When her lips parted, he brought his lips down on hers, and nibbled her bottom lip. The taste of sweet gentleness that was all Sarah consumed him.

The tips of their tongues met and a shock of need jolted through him. He ached to sink deeper into her, taking everything she offered. “Sarah. I want you. I want all of you, but not here.”

“Where? Where can we go?”

Her whispered words were so quiet; he almost missed what she said. But he couldn’t miss the passion burning in her eyes. Before she could change her mind, he wrapped an arm around her waist and hurried toward the outside staircase to the upstairs wraparound deck.

He opened one of the doors off the deck, entering the room they shared, and shut the door, quietly turning the lock.

The unmade king bed dominated the space. He knew exactly why he brought her up here. He wanted to claim her, make love to her until they were so entwined, she would find it impossible to walk away.

Releasing her hand, he approached the bed and yanked the top sheet and comforter into his arms, and then searched for a place to set them.

The next instant, Sarah’s soft hands circled his waist, her head nestling his back.

“Drop them.”

She moved her hands up and released his hold on the bedding, and they spilled at his feet. “I want you, too, Jason. I have for months.”

He twisted and faced her, his jaw working. “Why didn’t you say something?”

“I don’t read people well. I couldn’t take the chance of losing your friendship.” She held his hand, but stared at the floor. “But what I realized is that we have something so much more powerful than just a friendship. I trust you, have faith in you. I need to give us a chance for me.” She raised her gaze and sought his. “Is that enough for now?”

His arms circled her body, drawing her completely against him. “It’s more than enough.” He caressed her bottom lip, savoring the taste of her. As he deepened the kiss, his body shook with need. He lifted her off her feet and cradled her as if she weighed nothing. Their eyes never left each other.

“Wrap your legs around me.”

Sarah did as he demanded and clung to him, her body trembling. He carried her to the bed and laid her down on the cool sheets. When he swept his t-shirt over his head, her eyes widened and her fingers roamed his chest.
