XIIII
Eliakim was astonished by what he had interrupted as well as the composure he had shown. When Wilbur had pointed him in the direction of the dojo as he had stepped off the elevator, he had been so occupied with what he had discovered, that he had barged into the dojo without announcing his presence.
He had expected to find Pharah alone, not in a sensual embrace with the Crescent. Over the ages, there had been rumours about their queen, but very few had seen the woman face-to-face, let alone could name any of the Crescentâs female lovers.
It sort of made sense to him why.
The Crescent consorted only with condemned women and once their liaison had run its course, the woman was exterminated. It sounded cold-hearted, but also brilliant. Since the free agent practice had been outlawed, but Wilbur and Pharah were still alive, it explained a lot. They were already marked for extermination so they couldnât complain when their usefulness to the Crescent ran out. He felt a pang of sadness at the thought.
He may have only known them for a shockingly brief two days, but he had come to think of them as not only peers, but maybe close acquaintances. Which was why he was once again astonished by the radical change in the otherwise calm and composed Pharah. She had calmly returned the weapons to the wall after the Crescentâs rather dramatic departure.
âDid you hear what she said, Garzo?â
He had and it had surprised him as much as him happening upon Pharah and Crescent kissing.
âShe knows what this is all about.â
Pharahâs eyes were a few shades darker than usual giving them a strange cloudy look.
âShe also alluded to the fact that this could have a dire outcome for her.â Before he could respond to that, Pharah had walked past him, her gait brisk and determined. He knew instinctively where she was going and followed her. She pushed the door open, causing it to slam against the wall and drawing a startled squeak from the young girl. Pharah ignored her as she reached out for the young man and effortlessly lifted him out of the chair with one hand.
He didnât interfere but simply watched in quiet admiration as she shook the young man who hung limply in her grasp. She radiated pure rage. If this was the Pharah that the Juggernaut had faced, he sympathised with the man.
âIâll give you one more chance to stop wasting my time and yours, by asking you to tell me what you sold to Elsmore.â Her facial expression was blank and her tone was quiet, almost conversational, as she asked the question.
âI told youâ¦â
âAh-ah!â She cocked her head to the side with a sickly-sweet smile. âYou only get one chance to get this right. The next thing youâll hear will be the snapping of the first of your girlfriendâs fingers.â A gasp came from the cowering girl. âAnd when I run out of fingers, Iâll break a rib for every minute you have wasted my time.
