Finlay

I glowered at Kennedy’s back as he led my witch out of the room. It took everything in me to stop myself from tackling the bastard and beating the piss out of him.

“Why don’t you sit down?” Sharon suggested gently.

I turned my glare on her. She didn’t flinch. I didn’t sit.

She huffed out an exasperated breath. “Fine. If you’re going to stand there in Dom-rage mode, you can at least listen.” He expression softened again. “You need to let Alicia make this choice. I know you want to protect her because you’re an alpha Dom and all that,” she waved her hand dismissively, “but that’s not what she needs.”

“And what do you think she needs?” My voice was little more than a growl. “To be back at their mercy? Do you know what they’ll do to her if they catch her?”

“Yes. And she does, too. But she’s choosing to take the risk. Think about this, Finlay. Alicia hasn’t been able to make a choice in years. Do you really think Dimitri allowed her any free will?”

“It wasn’t a choice at all,” she’d admitted. He’d taken her freedom, her identity. I might not know the specifics of what he did to her, but the little I’d glimpsed was enough to make me sick.

“Please hurt me.” I remembered how she’d craved pain, punishment. He’d twisted her natural physical responses against her.

I gave a sharp jerk of my head, focusing on the present. “I can’t let them take her. I can’t put her at risk, no matter what she wants.”

“You won’t let them take her. None of us will. We’ll protect her, but you need to respect her choice. This is her chance to redeem herself. I know how important that is.” Her dark eyes turned inward. “A few years ago, Clayton almost died. I failed him as a partner. Then his fiancé Rose was abducted by the Latin Kings. They tortured her before we got to her.” Her glossy curls swayed around her face as she shook her head. “I thought it was all my fault. I had to do good, to prove to myself that I could make things right. I chose to go undercover to take down the Latin Kings. We succeeded in taking out one of the tribes, and I almost died for it. I don’t regret it.”

Her gaze hardened. “Kennedy wanted to pull me from the op, but he respected my decision to remain in the field. It might seem like he doesn’t care about protecting Alicia, but he’s giving her a gift. He recognizes the importance of redemption. Alicia will never fully heal if you don’t allow her to take control of her life and set things right. And I know that’s what you want: to make her whole again. I don’t know what happened between the two of you, but I can see that you’re a good man. If I’m right in that assessment, then I know you’ll let her do what she needs to do in order to recover.
