I stuck the note to the toolbox by the big workbench on my way out. I moved to my car after I locked the office door and slid into the front seat. It was hot as hell out here and my leather seats reminded me why this mid-thigh skirt was not a good idea. “Hot! Holy shiitake mushrooms! Talk about burnin’ your biscuits…”

After adjusting myself in the seat, I chuckled and started my car. Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” was playing. I had to sing along, no way not to. I turned the air conditioner on high and slowly made my way out of the parking lot.

Walmart wasn’t far from work, which was good. I drove around to the side of the building and parked. I made quick work of stuffing my phone in my bra and nodded. It was good to not have to worry about that. I grabbed my list, the credit card Reggie had given me and my keys. I left my bag, which didn’t have much in it in the floorboard and stuffed the card in my back pocket, and the keys in the front pocket. I hurried to get inside the garden center. I’d use it as my short cut to get to the back of the store where the office supplies were.

My eyes roamed the parking lot as I walked towards the garden center entrance. I made the mistake of looking down at my watch and not where I was going which had me slamming into a body. I grunted as my hands went up to grab a hold of the person.

“Oh, I’m so sorry. Please-” My words trailed off when I met the evil eyes of none other than Melvin Ridgewood. I gasped and tried to jerk away from him.

“You’re coming with me!” He said, reaching for my arms.

“I never did when we were together, so why would I start now,” I replied.

“You Bitch!” He shouted, spittle spewing with each word. I guess he didn’t like that dig at his bedroom abilities, or lack of, rather. “You’re coming with me, now.”

“The hell I am! ” I growled and kicked out, catching him in the shin. He snarled out a curse before jerking me harder, causing me to trip. I yelped, pain shooting through my knee where I dropped. His grip around my bicep tightened and without another word he dragged me along with him. I used my free hand to try and get myself back up. It, too, was now bleeding.

“Melvin! Let me go, you asshole!” I tried again to kick him, but he was ready this time. I didn’t see the blow coming, but I felt it. My head spun to the side and pain skyrocketed through me.
