Various Threats to Rock Machine

On the other side of the coin, although Rock Machine was insulated from any threat that Hell's Angels posed, they were not exactly a powerful power gang on their own. People could not touch Cazzetta because he was related to several prominent members of the Quebec mafia, but the protection only extended to Cazzetta himself.

As for members of his gang, they were easy pickings for larger biker gangs looking to make a mark and consolidate territory. These gangs had been unable to do this previously since the territory now held by Rock Machine used to be property of Hell's Angels. Attempting to procure said territory would have resulted in practically every chapter of Hell's Angels in Quebec coming down upon them with a fury that would have wiped their entire organization off of the face of the map.

But this territory was now owned by Rock Machine, an independent gang with a low membership rate and absolutely no support from any other part of the country. This meant that larger gangs saw the opportunity to expand their own territory by taking down the nascent Rock Machine. All they would have to do is ensure that Cazzetta himself was not harmed and that they left a little something for Cazzetta to live off of.

The Italian mafia in Quebec would not have forgiven any gang that would have left a member of their family destitute. They would have eliminated any criminal element that brought any physical harm to Cazzetta or his family. But, if they managed, through turf war and offensive strategies, to force Cazzetta into a retreat or surrender, they would be able to take his turf without having to face the Quebec mafia.

This is because of the intricate complexities of the honor code among criminals. Cazzetta was responsible for his own criminal operation. Although his relatives in the mafia would always ensure that he had a source of income and that there would never be any threat to his own safety or the safety of his family, Cazzetta alone was responsible for the success of his criminal endeavor. Therefore, forcing him into surrender would allow the gang that succeeded in doing this to take over his turf without incurring the wrath of the mafia.

This honor code is partly the reason why even forcing Cazzetta into surrendering his territory was not an option for Boucher or Hell's Angels. Hell's Angels, at least the Montreal chapter, had broken the biggest rule in any criminal’s honor code: never kill your own. If Boucher even tried to take the territory that Rock Machine had, the mafia would come down hard simply because they didn’t like the way that Hell's Angels did things.

Coming back to Rock Machine, as you can tell from the situation, Cazzetta had nothing to fear from Boucher or Hell's Angels, but he had his work cut out for him as far as consolidating his position and defending his interest from other gangs in the area went.
