Chapter Seven

Alex rushed through a tunnel of rock in her mind.

Her eyes snapped open.

Within a split second she located and pounced on him. She was so furious her speed alone thrust them headfirst into the sultry, deceptive lake. Like two elongated, sizzling lava rocks they sank to the bottom. She thrashed at Salvator, clawing and biting, as they rolled over and over along the lake's murky gray bottom. Bubbles rose and spit little bursts of lethal gas into the air. He shoved her away. She clawed the ground on all fours until she had him again. Grainy sand formed a twist of rising fog around them.

With a roar painful to her ears, he shot them out of the acrid water until they hovered at least twenty feet above. A different sort of stink hung on them. Alexandria didn't care. She sunk her teeth into his forearm and tore. His hand came around her throat and his arm straightened. Still she tried to attack.

To say she felt anger would be a massive understatement.

You took what was not yours to take, she screamed into his mind.

He evaded a kick particularly close to his groin.

"You were virginal."

Alex roared again and tried to punch his chest. "So? You were evil."

"I was vampire," he returned evenly, barely ruffled.

They spun higher as she warred with him, eager to see her fist go through his head. Emotions screeched through her and made it impossible to think clearly. "You try to justify."

"I do not try. My actions were indeed justified, piccolo."

Knowing full well he wouldn't let her get near enough to hurt him, she pushed off and lowered herself to the rock beside the lake. Salvator landed beside her. Spinning fast, she tried to kick him. He caught her foot. Alex fell to the ground and tried to yank her foot away. He didn't let go, asinine excuse for a vampire.

"You took advantage of me. I hate you," she seethed.

"Your mind does." Salvator kept hold of her leg; intense eyes traveled slowly up her thigh. "But not your body."

A new fire ignited her blood beneath his arrogant, knowing appraisal. Why him? Why now? In all her life, all her long centuries as a vampire, her body had been her own. Now she wasn't so sure. In fact, as liquid, hot warmth filled her icy veins, her body remembered his enticing touch. No, not enticing but mind-blowing. Surely she had lost her mind altogether to allow such a thing. And allow she had. She exhaled, recalling how his long muscled body felt pleasantly heavy when it covered hers, dominating in a way she couldn't exactly label as rape.

No, she had wanted it, wanted it desperately at one point, maybe a few points, maybe the whole time. Her nipples suddenly felt tight, breasts heavy, as though they too remembered. Alex groaned in denial when her whole body seemed to thrum in response to the mere thought of what he'd done to her. His hand inched up her calf, fingers creative and searching, Italian accent soft and forgiving.
