His walk was something she recognized immediately when she first met him on Cay Verde.

Everything about Caleb Samuels was measured and unhurried. Each word he spoke and each motion he made. She remembered that even his lovemaking had been slow, methodical and unhurried, sending her beyond herself and spewing a flood-tide of explosive pleasure.

The muscles in her stomach contracted when she thought about making love to him; seeing him, touching him, had brought back the vivid memories. Each time he touched her she was certain he could feel her trembling hunger.

His gaze went to her bare wrists, then moved slowly up to her face. He handed her two decorative shopping bags.

“I didn’t know what you were serving so I brought red and white wine.”

Lauren wiped her hands on a towel, smiling. “Both are appropriate. I’m serving red meat and poultry.” She took the bags from him, her fingers brushing his, and Cal pulled away as if he had been burned.

The air was radiating with tension—sexual and emotional as she concealed a mysterious smile. “I’ve decided to marry you,” Lauren announced softly.

Cal stood motionless in the middle of the kitchen, breathing heavily through parted lips. She had given in. It was so easy, too easy to digest all at once.

“Why, Lauren?” Cal chided himself as soon as the words were out. She had accepted; why did he want to know why?

Lauren turned back to cutting up the vegetables for a garden salad, unable to look at Cal. “I’m doing it for Drew,” she lied.

At that moment Cal didn’t care why she had decided to marry him again—all that mattered was that she had agreed to do it. He reached for her, cradling her gently in the circle of his embrace. She stiffened slightly before she melted against the solid hardness of his body.

Lauren curved her arms around Cal’s waist, resting her cheek against his chest. It felt good, so natural to be in his arms. She had not realized how much she had missed his touch, his warmth.

She raised her face, smiling up at him. “You’re going to have to let me go so I can finish cooking.”

Cal caught her chin between his thumb and forefinger. His gaze lingered longingly on her face, focusing on her mouth. His head descended slowly and he staked his claim in a slow, drugging kiss.

Lauren rose on tiptoe, her arms going around his neck. She moaned softly as his tongue traced the outline of her mouth seconds before his teeth sank tenderly into her lower lip.

Cal devoured her mouth, and an explosive heat swept through Lauren; a sexual heat she had not felt in years.

It wasn’t for Drew. She had consented to remarry Caleb Samuels because she still was in love with him—she had never stopped loving him.

Lauren pushed against his chest and he released her. Both of them were breathing heavily.

Cheeks flaming, she glanced away. “I have to finish the salad,” she mumbled, not recognizing the sound of her own voice.

“I’ll see about Drew,” Cal offered as an excuse before walking out of the kitchen.
