Weâre at my house, full with good food, and cuddling on the couch while the pets explore their temporary home. They have adapted well and when I mentioned that to Ava, she explained that they, as a family, have moved several times in the last few years.
Iâm half lounging on the arm of the couch and Ava is tucked up against me in a half laying position. Her head is on my chest. I put my hands under her arms and pull her up and twist her until she is lying in front of me as I slide down. We are facing each other with our heads resting on the arm.
She is relaxed and itâs a great look on her face. Sheâs so beautiful it makes me catch my breath and realize how lucky I am that she has given me the benefit of the doubt and is here with me now. Not many women like her would want someone like me. A biker, rough around the edges, wild and willful. Iâm a lucky man and I know it.
âWhy did Chris make that comment about you having contacts and refusing to help his band?â I ask.
âUgh. Chris is so far up his own ass he doesnât know whatâs going on around him most of the time. What he meant though is that we met when I was at a club with an artist named Solene Bridges. I had met her a few months before that and we got chatting and she wanted to buy a song that I had written. We met later, she listened to it and eventually her recording label bought the song and she recorded it on her second cd.â
My eyebrows rise as she looks up at me shyly and smiles.
âYou wrote a song? And it sold and was recorded?â I ask confirming what she just said.
âYeah, Iâve written tons of songs, but it has always just been a way of expressing myself, not to try to sell. It just happened. And it was fun and it led to me selling a few others to a few different artists. I am not getting rich by any means, but I did make enough to make the down payment on the bakery. I have a bit of an artistic bent. I learned how to play guitar at one of the foster homes I was in and loved it. That led to writing songs. Mostly just to get emotions out that I didnât dare express any other way. Anyway, Chris knew who she was and was eavesdropping when she suggested that I get with a band and get some of my songs on tape. She said it would help sell them if the artists could hear them as a complete song. Chris jumped in, introduced himself, and offered his band as a solution. We did a few gigs together, played a couple of my songs, and now he thinks Iâm his in to the world of music. Iâm not.
